The Coaching Process
Coaching is a one-on-one process, rooted in asking questions to raise awareness, which generates responsibility in the learner/client. Coaching is all about defining goals, exploring the current reality, genera
ting options or possibilities, and committing to a course of action. The coach is the guide rather than the leader, manager, mentor or advice-giver.
Coaching is enabling, rather than directive, and the process is driven by the coach; it is very much about ‘getting into peoples’ heads’, understanding their aspirations, motivations and goals (what makes them tick) and helping them to make achievable steps towards their ideal self.
